Alternate Delivery Program for 16-19 year old students Grade 10, 11 & 12 Courses

Program
The Transitions Program offers 16 to 19 year old students an opportunity to continue their education in a supportive environment. Each student will be assigned a Teacher Advisor who will develop a Student Learning Plan. The Teacher Advisor will guide the student's learning by encouraging the student to complete all the courses leading to a Dogwood Diploma.

Registration
Students currently registered with another school are asked to meet with their respective Vice Principal at their home school to obtain a referral to the Transitions Program. Parents or guardians are asked to contact Riverside and arrange an appointment with the Principal. This interview provides an opportunity to complete the school registration form, develop a student learning plan, review expectations and pay fees. Parents are asked to bring a copy of the student's birth certificate, Carecard, Doctor's name and phone number. A 30 minute orientation meeting with the student's Teacher Advisor will be arranged on the following Friday between 9:00 am and 10:30 am.

Schedule
Instruction (Morning Session) 9:00 - 11:30
Lunch 11:30 - 12:00
Instruction (Afternoon Session) 12:00 - 2:30

Attendance
There is a direct connection between attendance and achievement. Staff continually monitor individual student attendance and progress.

Students are expected to:

Parents of students under 19, or students over 19 are expected to phone the school to let the Teacher Advisor know when they will be absent, late or need to leave class early.

Transportation
Students who are over 19 or those who live within 4.8 km of the school are responsible for their own transportation. For public transportation information for the Valley Max Transit System (formerly Central Fraser Valley Transit) click here

Students who are under 19 years of age and live further than 4.8 km from the school may wish to access the School District bus system as a "courtesy rider". All Riverside programs are considered "a program of choice".

The Board of Education, at its May 19th meeting, adopted a fee schedule for students (courtesy riders) who use the buses when they are not entitled to free transportation as provided by Board policy. Students who live inside the established walk limits for their neighbourhood school, attend a program of choice, or attend a school of choice will now be required to pay for transportation if they use the bus system. Please see Board Policy #18 on Transportation Services for a complete explanation.

Students are required to complete a Transportation Request Form. For School District of Mission bus schedules click here

Effort and Behaviour
There is a strong connection between effort and achievement. A quiet environment, free of distractions and disruptive behaviour, helps everyone succeed.

Students are expected to:

These behaviours will help create an environment in which students can successfully achieve their educational goals.

Course Completion
Students need to successfully complete 20 courses in Grade 10, 11 and 12 to achieve a Dogwood Certificate. Students who wish to graduate in 3 years, must complete 7 courses a year. Students who wish to graduate in 4 years, must complete 5 courses in a year.

Students are encouraged to attend every class, work steadily and regularly complete homework.
