Mission Summer School 2013

 

This four week Grade 10-12 Summer School Program at Riverside College is being sponsored by Mission Public School District. 

ELIGIBILITY

Students are eligible to enroll in Mission Summer School if they are:

Students wishing to enroll in a Summer School course for which they have previously achieved less than 40% must receive approval from their home school principal in order to enroll in Summer School.

Students wishing to enroll in a Summer School course which they have never taken at their home school must receive approval from their home school principal.  Only then may a student apply to Summer School to take a course for the first time.  Approved students will be placed on a wait list until it is determined that there is available space in the course. 

Mission Public School students currently enrolled in Grade 9 may apply with the approval of their home school principal.  Approved Grade 9 students will be placed on a wait list until it is determined that there is available space in the course.

Mission Public School students currently enrolled in Grade 10-12 will be given priority access to the Summer School Program.

Out-of-district, Out-of-province, Exchange and International students may apply and will be placed on a wait list.  These students may be accepted providing there is space available in the course. 

COURSE OFFERINGS

The four-credit Grade 10, 11 and 12 courses being offered are:

All classes are subject to enrollment and the School District reserves the right to cancel or combine courses if class size requirements are not met. 

All classes run from July 2nd to July 26th.  Classes are in session Monday to Friday from 8:15 am to 12:30 pm.  Students must attend every class to meet the minimum hours of instruction required to ensure success.  Students not meeting the attendance requirement will be withdrawn.  Note: Classes are not in session on the holiday Monday July1st.

All students must attend the one hour introductory class/organization session at Riverside College on Friday June 28th at the designated time listed per subject:

Educational assistants may be available to provide additional support for students with a Special Needs Designation.

COURSE REQUESTS

Students may request up to three courses. They will need to identify their first, second and/or third choice of course.  Each student will be offered one course based on availability.   All courses requested must receive the approval of a home school counselor or principal.

REGISTRATION FORM

Registration forms for Mission Public School students are available from their Home School Office from May 27h – June 27th.    Mission Public School students will be given preference if they have registered before June 21st.  For registration from May 27th – June 25th parents are asked to return the completed registration form and supporting documents to their Home School Office rather than at Riverside College. For registration on June 26th – June 27th parents are asked to drop off the completed registration package at Riverside College between 9 am – 4 pm.  The deadline for registration is June 27th.

Please note: the student’s counselor must sign the course request section of the registration form to indicate that the course request is appropriate.

Registration forms for Out-of-district, Out-of-province, Exchange and International students are available at the Mission School District Office or online from the Riverside College website www.goriversidecollege.ca.  These students will be allowed to register from June 21st - June 27th.  Completed registration forms may be dropped off at Riverside College June 21st – June 27th.  These registration forms will not be accepted at Riverside College prior to June 21st.

TUITION FEES

Students enrolled in British Columbia Public Schools for 2012/2013 will have their tuition paid by the Ministry of Education.

Out-of-province students will have a tuition fee of $800.  The tuition must be paid in full when the student is accepted into the Summer School Program.

Exchange and International students must obtain approval from the MPSD International Department prior to applying for Summer School.  The tuition fee of $800 must be paid in full when the student is accepted into the Summer School Program. 

Tuition fee payment must be made in full at Riverside College by June 28th.  We accept Debit or cash only. 

TEXTBOOK DEPOSIT

Mission Public School students who have been enrolled in 2012/2013 and will be enrolled for 2013/2014 will not be required to pay a textbook deposit.

Students who are not enrolled in Mission Public Schools for 2013/2014, Out-of-district, Out-of-province, Exchange and International students will be required to pay a refundable textbook deposit of $100 upon acceptance to the Summer School Program. 

Textbook deposits must be made in full at Riverside College by June 28th.  We accept Interact or cash only.

PROVINCIAL EXAMINATIONS

Provincial examinations are required in Mathematics 10, English 10, Science 10, English 12 and Communications 12.

Students must successfully complete their Summer School course in order to write the provincial examinations in August. Students who have previously written the Provincial exam for a course may not have to write in August if their previous Provincial exam mark was sufficient to produce a passing grade when combined the the Summer School course mark.  

Home Schools are requested to let me know immediately if an adjudication has been requested or received for a student wishing to enroll in Summer School.   The deadline for adjudications for the August 2013 provincial examinations is June 19th.

Students in Summer School will be writing their provincial examinations from August 12th to 14th at Riverside College.

Continuing Education: Pre- registration begins June 10th for Continuing Education Courses beginning in the Fall of 2013. Graduated students upgrading an academic course(s) with Continuing Education do not require an appointment to register. Non-Graduated students require an appointment with the counsellor to develop a course plan for graduation. Please call 604-814-0446 during office hours to make an appointment.

Official Transcripts for the 2012-13 school year will be mailed out to students by the Ministry of Education the first week of August 2013. High School Diplomas will be ready for pick up in the office in September 2013.
